What is FBA and What is Easy Ship?

Amazon offers Indian sellers three fulfilment options. FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon) means you ship your inventory to an Amazon warehouse. Amazon then picks, packs, and ships each order to the customer. Your products get the coveted Prime badge and deliver in 1–2 days. The tradeoff: you pay a fulfillment fee per unit plus monthly storage charges.

Easy Ship means you store inventory at your own premises. When an order arrives, you package it and Amazon's courier picks it up from your location and delivers it to the customer. You pay a delivery fee per shipment. You retain inventory control but handle packaging yourself.

The third option, MFN (Merchant Fulfilled Network), is where you also arrange your own courier — this calculator focuses specifically on FBA vs Easy Ship, the two most commonly used methods for growing sellers on Amazon India.

When FBA is Better

  • Your product is lightweight and compact — FBA fulfillment fee for sub-500g items is very competitive
  • Your category is competitive and Prime badge visibility directly drives Buy Box wins
  • You have consistent, predictable demand and want to offload all logistics operations
  • Your products sell fast — low storage duration means minimal storage cost impact
  • You are scaling and cannot handle volume packing operations in-house

When Easy Ship is Better

  • Your product is heavy or bulky — FBA fulfillment fees for 2kg+ products are high
  • You have slow-moving inventory that would incur significant FBA storage charges
  • You need flexibility to manage stock for multiple channels from one location
  • Your product requires special storage conditions (temperature, fragile) not suited to FBA warehouses
  • You are in early stages and want to test without committing to FBA minimum inbound quantities

Example Calculation

Product: ₹999 selling price, ₹350 COGS, 8% referral fee, 10% return rate at ₹75/return. FBA: ₹55 fulfillment, ₹8/mo storage for 2 months, ₹12 inbound. Easy Ship: ₹65 delivery, ₹10 closing fee, ₹18 packaging.

FBA wins by ₹11.80/unit. The margin difference seems small, but at 3,000 units/month that is ₹35,400 per month. FBA also gets Prime badge which can increase conversion by 20–30%, further widening the effective advantage.

Common Mistakes Sellers Make

  • Comparing only the headline fulfillment fee vs shipping fee — missing inbound shipping cost, storage accumulation, and packaging labor in the FBA vs Easy Ship comparison.
  • Not accounting for storage duration — an FBA product stored for 4 months at ₹10/unit/month adds ₹40 per unit cost, flipping the winner entirely.
  • Ignoring GST on fees — the 18% GST on Amazon fees is real cash outflow until you claim ITC. Non-GST sellers (under threshold) cannot claim it at all.
  • Assuming FBA always wins because of Prime badge — for heavy products (2kg+), Easy Ship is often cheaper on a pure per-unit cost basis.
  • Forgetting that Easy Ship requires you to pack every order — this is a real cost in labor time even if not entered as an INR value.

Tips to Increase Profit on Amazon

1

Optimise packaging to reduce FBA fee slab

FBA fees jump in bands by weight and dimensions. Reducing packaging weight from 600g to 480g can drop you into a lower slab, saving ₹15–₹30 per unit on the fulfillment fee alone.

2

Keep IVR days of inventory low in FBA

Storage fees compound over time. Use Inventory Performance Index (IPI) data in Seller Central to identify slow-moving ASINs. Remove or reduce inbound quantity for items with sell-through under 8 weeks.

3

Claim GST ITC on all Amazon fees

If you are GST registered, the 18% GST on referral fee, fulfillment fee, and storage fee is claimable as Input Tax Credit. At ₹10,000 monthly fees, ITC of ₹1,800 is recoverable every month.

4

Use FBA for fast-movers, Easy Ship for slow-movers

A hybrid approach is often optimal. Route your top-selling SKUs through FBA for Prime advantage and operational efficiency. Use Easy Ship for long-tail or seasonal products to avoid storage fee accumulation.

5

Negotiate higher selling price instead of cutting costs

A ₹50 increase in selling price on a ₹999 product (+5%) adds ₹50 to profit but only increases referral fee by ₹4. Revenue growth has far higher leverage than cost reduction once you have optimised the obvious levers.
